Overview

The Frogs Program is learn-to-swim for pre-school/kindy aged children with previous skill in the water. Frogs builds on exisiting skills and confidence, working on the beginnings of streamlinging, torpedos. Each class is kept small, with only four children per group, ensuring focussed instruction and a nurturing environment for every swimmer to thrive.

"We have fun, we play, THIS is our job … we just take it slowly!"

We like the water and have swim skills but we are a bit timid. We aren’t scared, we just need some time. We need someone to help us build our belief that we CAN do it ourselves and challenge us to go outside our comfort zone. Even though we need to take things a little slower; it won’t be long until we move to Frogs 2 or 3 (depending on our age)
We work on, but are not limited to:

  • Safety Skills, always!

  • Developing our fundamental skills - kicking, breath control, floating.

  • Being adventurous

  • Doing it by ourselves

  • Going that little bit further

  • Eyes down swimming

Frogs 2

3 years, 4 months - 4 years

"We have fun, we play, THIS is our job … nothing can hold us back!"

We love the water and are busting to swim!  We are ‘experimenters’ and like working out how to do things for ourselves, we make mistakes and try again. We are proud of ourselves and all we can do.  We want to be under the water and explore how it feels. We are constantly moving and need to be kept busy. Challenge us and see what we can do!
We work on, but are not limited to:

  • Safety skills, always!

  • Developing an effective long leg kick

  • Coordinating our bodies

  • Floating independently - front and back

  • Breath control & pop up breathing

  • Independent swims up 4 meters

  • Paddling arms

  • Chin tucked in swims

Frogs 3

4 years - 5 years

"Beneath our ‘play’ are the skills that will lead us to formal strokes, it might just look messy right now!"

Our bodies have grown and become more coordinated. We are more capable each time we swim. We are ready to do more than play and explore, though play is still an important tool for our learning. We are watching those around us and are trying to do what they can do.  The more opportunities we have to practice, the better our skills become. We need to hardwire our fundamental skills before moving to more complex ones. Getting it “right” feels great!
We work on, but are not limited to:

  • Safety skills, always!

  • Streamlined starts and torpedoes

  • Correct head/body positions

  • Strengthening our long leg kick

  • Independent back floats and kicking

  • Good pattern of arms

  • Breathing to one side

  • Putting multiple skills together

  • Introduction to butterfly kick (swimming like a Dolphin)

  • Introduction to somersaults

"We are working hard, everyone can see when it  ‘clicks’ and comes together!"

Many of us have started school now so we are ready to work in a group, and are learning to be responsible for taking our turn.  We need to be on the move and practicing constantly! Our body movements are showing greater coordination and it’s not as hard to put multiple skills together now. You can see our formal strokes are developing. We are almost ready to move to the “big” pool, and that is exciting for us!
We work on, but are not limited to:

  • Safety skills, always!

  • More controlled and refined execution of skills we learnt prior to this level

  • Putting multiple skills together to build strokes

  • Lane etiquette

  • Longer streamlined swims (across the whole pool)

  • Bubble arm and breathing arm (dominant side first then, then

  •     non-dominant side)

  • Adding arms to backstroke kicking

  • Introduction to breaststroke kick
